hello old friend

I'm getting REALLY tired, which is bad because I have a French midterm in 5 hours, not to mention some bookwork is due as well.
But that's my fault. I shouldn't have gone through photos, but since i love you guys, I did.
Here are photos from Ruth's halloween party. If you're a member of my family or respect me at all or are at work, I recommend NOT viewing these pictures. But you can if you want to, your choice...

Halloween Party Photos!

Anyway, not much is going on here.
I have been listening to the soundtrack for Thumbsucker nonstop. I love love love that movie. It is the only movie I have seen in a theatre two days in a row. I love it so much.
But anyway.
School is going ok, except I am faltering a little bit. But we all know that the fun stops and helpfulness begins at this point, so I'm not worried.
Things are good at home, I guess. The place is relatively clean now. I'm trying to decide what to do with some old nautical signal flags I found.

In other news, I'm going to florida for winter break. I used to go to Key West every single break (as in, 4 times a year or more) but I haven't gone since march of 2003. So this will be my first time down there in 2 and a half years, which is strange. But things will go well, I think. I can't believe it's been so long since I've been there. Anyway, Charles is coming with me, which is good. And exciting. We're only going to be gone for 3 days, but it's still signifigant to me.
Anyway, look at those photos. they're fun.

heart attack moment.

So, this was a total heart attack moment yesterday.
Watching the daily show, as usual, and the moment of zen comes around, and WHAT? It's Peter Anderson! My mom's ex boyfriend, she went out with him for like 4 years I think. He's the guy I've known since I was like 12, the guy who comforted my low self esteem over the phone when I was in 5th grade, the guy who keeps his house so cold with air conditioning he doesn't have to refridgerate his butter. Weird stuff.
Anyway, CLICK HERE TO SEE THE VIDEO OF PETER ON THE DAILY SHOW! If you look closely and slow it down you can see Mikaela for a second as well.

I called mom as soon as I could and got the scoop from her. I tried to transcribe everything she said. It's mostly verbatim. You know I couldn't make up a phrase like "gucky whitish slimish mud".

In the middle of the night we started hearing all these tiles flying off the roof. We didn't think anything of it, except that we were losing some tiles. We didn't get much sleep since it was so noisy, but around 6 o'clock in the morning most of the heavy winds had already left, so we got to sleep from around 6 to 9.
At 9 that morning Tina called and said 'How are you guys?' and I said 'Oh, we're great, we just lost some tiles. We were actually able to get some sleep; you just woke us up. How are things at the guesthouse?' she said 'Well, we lost a couple of trees, one of them fell but missed the pool entirely, so that's lucky. I'm going to go check the Gardens hotel and see how things look there.' So after I got off the phone with Tina, Gordon and I started getting up. Gordon walked to the window and said 'Oh my God!' I said 'What is it, Gordon?' and he said 'Come and see,' so I got up and went over, and the house was completely surrounded by water. The ocean and the gulf had met, and the house was sitting in the middle of it, we were like an island in of all this rushing water. I've never seen anything like it. Never seen anything like it.
The water rose so fast and so much, it went up probably about 8 feet where we live. It flooded all of our cars, even the Tundra. We bought this car, this truck, because we needed a big heavy truck. The tundra is the heaviest pick up truck they make, 6,000 pounds, and it was floating. There was gucky whitish slimish mud everywhere. Some water got into the real low level of the house, the storage area, but there wasn't much down there, just some furniture.
The pink house had 3 feet of water in it, celeste's house had 3 feet of water too. She said she was standing in it watching her furniture floating around and bumping into her. She had just bought a brand new car, and it sunk, and when the water gets inside a car like that it's totally destroyed.
I saw other people's docks floating away, I saw a lot of cars that floated away. At one point we tried to walk down to the basement and we got down halfway, but it was filled with water and we decided to wait until the water went down to go further.
Since the car was underwater, it's electrical system was totally fried. The alarm was going off underwater and it was making this horrible sound [at this point mom made the sound a sick dog would make]... I wanted to shoot it and put it out of its misery. I thought it was hilarious but Gordon didn't think it was funny at all.
Gordon lost a lot of stuff that he had at the pink house, a lot of family photos and personal stuff.
There isn't any electricity at the house, and we just got the power turned on at work now. Fantasy fest is cancelled, so not only do I lose tons of money from the business I lost this week, but the biggest business week of the year for me is gone now too.
All of new town, by where Celeste lives, and some sections of old town, and anywhere off the island was flooded.
EVERYBODY lost their cars. I got lucky, I have one car left that I left downtown, but I don't have any gas. Hopefully when the electric comes on for the rest of the island they will send some gas down here.
They must have put the cell phone towers back up, your call is the first one I've gotten. My phone worked for an hour yesterday, then lost the signal. Verizon phones were still working, though, for some reason, so after mine stopped working I had to borrow someone else's.

After this she started asking me about my bronchitis, how am I doing, how's school, etc. So i will not include that part of the conversation here.
But I'm still sick. I started coughing today and couldn't stop. It was pretty bad, I was in class and pretty much got kicked out.
In other news, my FAVORITE song right now is TROUBLE by Elliott Smith.
It's actually a cover of a Cat Stevens song, but i love it so much.
Anyway, if you all haven't seen Thumbsucker yet, you should. It's great.
I'm done for this post.

photo post!

Good news and bad news.
Bad news: My camera is not working too well. It's doing that crazy thing where the purple lines start showing up in pictures. It's cool for a little while, but gets old fast. So i took it in to Best Buy to get fixed today, they said i'll hear from them between 2 and 4 weeks. :(
Good news: I have a bunch of pictures to post!

In my life, things are going ok. I finished 2 classes which is going to make my workload for school a LOT easier. I also got A's in those two classes, which rocks! My leftover classes I think I'm doing ok in, except that I'm not very good at writing essays or checking the syllabus... but oh well.
So that's school... Friends... let's see, I'm making more friends I think, but I'm really bad at hanging out with people. But i did hang out with Joey this evenin', which was nice.
Relationship... Things are going good with C-man, of course. Getting close to the year mark, which is weird, but good.
Family... I guess things are going ok. Haven't heard from Mom lately and Dad is on my side with the whole financial assholes thing (they're called financial advisors but I call them financial assholes). Jessie called me today to say hello and that she saw Louis Gunthersmith walking down our street. Weird.
Self... I'm doing ok. Not depressed, just bored. I'm really sick with Bronchitis right now and I hate it. Hate it hate it hate it. I've been in my apartment most of the week bored out of my mind, since it's fall break (no school for a week).
I also found out I get a month off for winter break. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO? If being off school for a WEEK drives me out of my skull, what am I going to do for a whole MONTH?
I've been volunteering at Big Brothers Big Sisters and it's fun so I might do that again.
Eh. I guess that's all I have to post about my life now.
And now... for the pictures!

Cakes from William's birthday party. I made the green one, which unfortunately got a little messed up under the foil. Still good, though!

Trees at school, it's definitely autumn.

I got an awesome new shirt. and this picture looks nice, I think.

Don't know what this is or how it got on my camera but it looks cool if you ask me.

Saw this the other night, pretty decent form of rebellion.

Canker sore!

On the road to Kirksville.

Snake! They have snakes by the biology depts!

Giles! went with us to look at the snakes.

"Downtown" Kirksville.

The definition of quaint.

I did not buy this, but it's still a pretty sweet outfit.

Crazians!

The Shangri-La Chinese Acrobats

I thought he was going to fall and die.

Well, that's that. enjoy your lives, everyone.

a couple random photos

venice cafe

sweet binoculars and case, props to Marcus Freeman for not needing them anymore :)

my new futon!

ehh, not much is going on. I don't really feel like writing except:

I am mad at the 22 Democratic senators who voted John Roberts into the Supreme Court Chief Justice spot. Thanks, jerks.
I am mad at Missouri legislature for passing SB1, further squelching Women's rights. Thanks, jerks.
I need to do some extreme sleeping.
