pre-thanksgiving update
11/23/06 - 12:20 AM - Thursday (thanksgiving)
Well! Right now it is the night before thanksgiving, but it's past midnight so technically it IS thanksgiving.
I am writing in hopes that I will be able to use the internet for like 5 seconds at some point over "break."
Anyway. This is my "New England Update" because I am in New England and have been since September. There isn't much to say that I haven't said (or tried to say) already, but one thing I haven't been able to do is post photos.
Unfortunately, by this point I have probably lost any visitors I may have had. But I will prolong the fantasy and pretend that this post will be greatly appreciated by many who were desperately waiting, sick with worry about what had happened to me.
New England is okay, it's weird because people will say "Oh, ___ is so far away" though ___ is an 8 hour drive from here and probably a 30 hour drive from STL. I guess it's not weird, per se, but I am still stuck in Missouri travel times. Not to mention I used to take road trips a lot.
The other thing is apparently I pronounce "egg" and "leg" with an accent. Not with an accent, really, just differently. I say the e like the a in "hay," as in, "I'd really like an aay-g for lunch," or "Ouch! I broke my lay-g!" It seems the correct pronunciation of those e's is the lower "eh" sound, and "egg" and "leg" should rhyme with "beg", which, oddly enough, i seem to say correctly.
Oh! And the BIGGEST cultural difference here is TAG SALES. Everyone here has tag sales instead of yard/garage sales. Tag sale? Annoying... though not as hillbilly as a yard sale or garage sale.
In other news, I turned 21 eleven days ago. Annnd nothing happened, but what a surprise. I don't feel any differrent. It really didn't help to read an old journal entry from summer of 2002 where I was realizing "I'm not young anymore." And I was 15! Geez.
So. Tomorrow I'm going to head to Jersey City (Which is apparently like 5 minutes from New York City) to spend the holiday with the Lathams. They are relatives on my dad's side; second cousins. I'm looking forward to it. It's weird because I will probably end up in NYC at some point, and I haven't been for 7 years. In fact, the last time I was in NYC was the last time I saw the Lathams, which was thanksgiving 1999. I remember that clearly, because I bought Beck's Midnight Vultures at the virgin megastore the day it came out, November 17, 1999.
Anyway. Looking forward to it! Can't wait, as a matter of fact. Actually, i wish I could sleep, I'm getting up in like 6 hours and i still have packing to do. I should just use a suitcase; i'm trying to fit everything into my backpack and it's probably not going to work. And it's not like i'm going to be walking around without a "home" for my stuff.. anyway.
Though many things have changed about me, my excessive use of the word "anyway" will never end. Speaking of changes, since July 20 I've lost 27 pounds. Good for me, whatever, i wasn't TRYING to lose weight, and now none of my clothes fit me. Just wonderful! But I guess it's pretty cool because some people have to try really hard to lose any weight, and i didn't really try to lose this. But then again, I was pretty much out of control this summer, as in, all I did was gain weight. Anyway.
My bowling scores still suck, averaging in the 70s. Here are 10 photos that don't reveal too much about where I am and what I am doing.

Oh, and if it's not clear by now, I have NO internet access and consequently cannot check my email. If you have my cell number, call and leave me voice mail, if not, try and find it, because that's pretty much the only way of contacting me. Yay for escaping modern society! It's wonderful that I can't even TOUCH my bank accounts... Oh well. I guess that's all for now, time to sleep, get up, get ready, and get into the city! Weird, huh?
