march 18, 2005 - raving mad!

For whatever reason, Hunter and I have associations with a few so-called "ravers." Some people say raves don't exist anymore, and I say well, they do, just to a lesser extent. Our friend Rabbit informed us that there was to be one of these raves entitled "What the Fuck?" at a place called Club Legit. The name of the place alone merited us going. Rabbit told us that this was a costume party, and that we should dress up. "Man, it's gonna be CRAZY! We're gonna have power rangers and gumbys and smurfs, it's gonna be awesome!" Therefore, I decided to pull out my usual leprechaun costume (it's a catch all, especially considering this was the night after st. patrick's day) and Hunter, on my advice, went as a gothic Alice in Wonderland. Byrne went as Byrne, which was great.

This was a time when I learned a bit about photographing around people. At first I felt really stupid carrying my camera around, even being inconspicuous and taking non-flash photos felt weird. But later I realized "Okay Amanda, how many raves are you going to be at in your life? How many of these people are going to care if you take their picture? People who go out dressed like this WANT attention. As long as I'm friendly and they know I'm one of them, everything will be fine." So, as you can see, the first few pictures on here are somewhat boring and of my crew, but as I lost my shyness I took pictures of people, then eventually worked up the courage to go up and talk to people and ask them if i could photograph them. All went well, as I expected. Anyway, enjoy.
