The kitchen fire. 02/24/03
Started by overheated vegetable oil, used to make beignets for French club.

On the way out after calling fire dept.... you really couldn't see the ceiling.
Part of the microwave was still on fire at this time.

You can see the sponge still on fire.

The window sill is still on fire, too.

My sister seemed to think the 0% visibility was funny.

Firetruck.
And a fireman.

The 2nd firetruck.
A couple guys standing in our driveway.
Apparently it helps to throw flour on the fire. That is why there is flour everywhere.
The glass just kept falling out of the microwave, some of it melted and fused
to the stove.

The ruined microwave...

Mom and I both said that it looks like modern art.

Microwave unplugged...

See the melted plastic dripping off?

In a way it's beautiful.

This is a good picture.

I can't really explain why some of it browned and some didn't.

funny, that skinny piece of plastic used to be the handle.

A couple bottles close to the stove were melted.

As well as a bag of chips.

All the pieces of glass on the stove...

The buttons of the microwave.

Again, a great picture.

kind of like lava

The pan that started it all.

The sink, which was a bitch to clean.

Notice the burnt counter? This means we need a new countertop. Mom said that's
good because the counter we have now is ugly anyway.

The blinds burnt and melted, and smoke got on the wall.

The handle of the sprayer melted...

All the cobwebs turned black from the smoke.
